The project involves the restoration of a Hoffman kiln, built in the 1940s in the city of Timóteo, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The kiln features vernacular architecture and follows the traditional German kiln style. The project was completed as the final work for the Architecture and Urbanism course at Universidade Izabela Hendrix, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The project for the Art Gallery at the Hoffman kiln aims to honor the architecture of the kiln while proposing new uses for the space. It includes the creation of an annex building to meet the cultural needs of the Timóteo community, which currently lacks cultural amenities. The project involves a feasibility study of the location, interviews, and research into the history of the kiln, along with an assessment of the current conditions and any existing issues with the structure. Additionally, it features a program designed to encourage the renovation of the space, creating environments that promote culture, art, leisure, and education.
The architectural intervention involves the design of an Art Gallery that includes a cinema, dance studios, painting areas, and a restaurant/café. It features integrative spaces with gardens and sustainable solutions such as a green roof and a water mirror.
